Most of the abuse our cameras take are done in Cheerleading and Dance. They are not subject to the elements so all in all we get pretty good usage out of them before malfunctions. I started the end of the cheer season with the Summits.
The Summit is a definitive & exclusive All Levels Championship founded by Varsity All Star in 2013. It's held at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney each year. It provides a unique experience for athletes to compete against the best of the best in all levels of competition across the globe and we have been a part of the event since its inception. This year, just like the D2 Summit when it began, the Youth teams were allowed to compete in Tampa, FL with hopes they will move their event to Disney World too in the future.
The Youth Summit Championship took place on April 20 – 21st, 2023 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, FL. I got to photograph my own child with Cheer Express Allstars on the Championship Day as there were two floors. This was followed by half-year league's Celebration powered by the Summit event for 2 more days.
The following week we moved to the D1 Summit and concurrent Dance Summit spread across ESPN and Disney's Coronado Springs hotel. This was a 4 day event.
On week 3 we moved to the D2 Summit which was a 3 day Championship event spread out across 4 halls.
Altogether, I shot for 11 days compiling a grand total of 206,665 images. One camera body suffered a "death by mirror box" on the very last day with about 8 teams left to go. And that's why we always keep 3 bodies in a our bag.
